Exhibition poster published by Fundacion Juan March, Spain. The exhibition "The Asia Principle. China, Japan, India and Contemporary Art in Spain (1957-2017)" aimed to draw attention to the influence of these three cultures on art in the second half of the 20th century in Spain, an influence notably visible in the work of numerous artists of the time but equally little explored.

30.75 x 26.5 in
78 x 67.3 cm

Features an artwork by José María Yturralde.
The Japanese word ensō means circle, and it refers to a calligraphic symbol associated with ideas of enlightenment, the universe and the void. In Zen Buddhist painting it symbolizes an instant when the mind is freed to create, and the form of a single stroke shows the expressive movement of the spirit at a unique moment. The circular shape dominates Yturralde’s most recent paintings, which shares an engagement with the concept of the infinite expressed through the presence / absence of color-light in space.
